Keratosis pilaris in childrenKeratosis pilaris, fairly common, is characterized by small pieces of hard spots centered by a hair follicle frequently localized on the arms. They are responsible for a granular appearance with skin feeling rough. Sometimes it can be inflamed, red and turn into to small scars. The onset often occurs in early childhood (half of the cases during the first 10 years) and often heals with age. This is a quite common (1.3% of children enrolled in schools in Hong Kong, 4% among schoolchildren in Romania). On the use of urea in children, there are a few publications saying that it is not recommended. It therefore seems prudent, in a child under 1 year not to apply a topical containing urea throughout the body. |
